Yoga Over 45

Feel fitter, stronger, for longer

IMG 0233Hypertension or high blood pressure affects something like one in six people in the Western world, although as many as one third of them don't realise they have the condition. The problem with it going undetected or treated is that high blood pressure can  cause long term damage to your body. Among the risks of poorly controlled hypertension are heart attacks, strokes, kidney failure and even dementia.

The truth is much can be done to lower and control hypertension, but what can be done often isn't.

There are some cases where the problem is caused by underlying factors such as tumours in the brain or adrenal glands or as a result of prescribed medication, but these are in the minority.

Stress can certainly lead to short term elevated blood pressure and is considered to be a potentially strong factor in sustained hypertension. When you are under stress you are more likely to skip exercise, eat the wrong foods, smoke or drink more alcohol - all of which can contribute to high blood pressure. Yoga's ability to reduce stress and help you manage it more effectively can help reverse these tendencies and promote healthier ways of coping with pressure.

To find out more see below.

What you’ll experience:

  • An individual assessment of your current flexibility, strength and how high blood pressure or hypertension is impacting on you
  • An initial 10 session programme which will give you your own plan to:
  • Help with weight loss
  • Lower stress levels
  • Increase energy levels
  • Improve your cardiovascular condition

How programmes work:

Ideally, join a "kick-start" programme first.

You'll learn enough in these 10 sessions to be able to continue on your own at home if you want to.

You don’t have to attend specific dates - but you do have to attend 10 sessions over a 16 week period. This is to help you really get used to the new exercises, to set your personal health goals, establish your own personal routine and begin to encourage new habits which will stick.

After your 10 sessions you can continue either as a drop in, or choose one of the discounted regular user options

For less severe cases find a regular class and book here.

Specialised classes for severe hypertension will begin based upon demand and interest. See also Private sessions.

Contact us if you are interested in joining these classes and we'll ensure you are the first to know when they begin!
